Reasons to go biking in Thailand
1. Nice and cheap! – Everything from transportation to food to lodging is available at dirt cheap prices, especially in North Thailand. Live like a king for a daily budget of around $20- $30 a day. Now that’s what I’m talking about.
2. Fabulous Food! – Who doesn’t love Thai cuisine? You can enjoy freshly prepared AND cheap dishes in almost every part of the country. So keep the Khao Soi (yellow coconut-flavoured curry with fried noodles), the Sai Oua (Thai sausage) and the Pad Se Ew (thick noodles) coming! The great roads, no traffic and stunning scenery of the mountains and the countryside makes it a ‘True Bikers Paradise’. Ride the famous highway No. 1148, ranked as one of the top 10 best riding roads all over the world.
3. Breathtaking nature – Thailand has some of the most pristine beaches in the world. Crystal clear waters, soft sand beneath your toes and coconuts dropping around your head. Doesn’t it sound perfect? From the big city skylines and river views of Bangkok to the mountains and tree-lined streets in Northern Chiang Mai to the glorious beaches and islands in the Southern area of Phuket, Thailand is simply gorgeous!
4. Adventure Paradise – Thailand is definitely a paradise for adrenaline junkies. Try your hand on diving, white water rafting, rock climbing, and zip lining. There’s plenty to keep thrill-seekers enthralled by the coast too – plunge into the Andaman Sea to see superb corals and a huge variety of fish. Or just go up and down the curves through the impressive mountains which provide you with pure riding pleasure.
5. Beaches – Thanks to its 1500 miles of glorious coastline, Thailand is a fabulous beach destination. If you are water baby, hop on to your bike and head to any of the closest beach. Some might be lined with tourists but there are many that aren’t.
6. Test your driving skills – Thailand’s roads can be dangerous. Don’t be alarmed, though. As long as you know your limits, motorcycling in Thailand is an awesome (and quite safe) adventure! After all, what’s the fun without a little risk?
7. The infamous Thai massages 😉 – Tired after a day full of rough biking? Thailand has got you covered. Famous Thai massages are very inexpensive. For only a few dollars an hour, you can get a full and thorough massage. There are plenty of massage places and the only challenge can be to find the best one. The choices of different types of massage are plentiful – from reflexology to foot and full body oil massages.
8. The Markets – The markets in Thailand are like no others in the world. Each one has its own distinct character, from the crowds they attract to the items which are for sale. And with a bike at your disposal, you will get right up close to the action. If you are looking for luxury brands with better prices than back home, then Bangkok is the place for you.
9. Friendly People – You should visit Thailand at least once in your lifetime to experience the warmth and friendliness of the people there. They are so friendly and welcoming and seem to never stop smiling. Plus, they are even friendlier with a person on a cycle or a bike because they feel you are a part of their country and culture. Bike touring connects you with regions, towns, and people that simply aren’t possible through other forms of travel. Travelling on a bike immerses you in everything.
10. Ride, eat, camp, repeat – It is quite liberating not worrying about much else besides riding and having fun. You only have to worry about where you will be cruising off to tomorrow on your bike. Bike touring can be something that truly reshapes your outlook on the world at large. It will help you to slow down, get in touch with yourself and your surroundings, and have amazing adventures that other people can only dream about.
