Brief info about the tour:
On this “Motorbiking in Northwest Vietnam” road trip we’ll be riding into the heart of Vietnam’s mysterious mountainous, Northern Highlands. Known as the roof of Indochina, this area is home to spellbinding scenery. From the fertile flood plains of the Red River to the remote ethnic minority villages along the Chinese border, from the soaring peaks of the Tonkinese Alps to the lush fields and wooden stilt homes of the limestone foothills; this is a journey that will linger long in your memory. Covering over 1,000km of twisting tarmac, we’ll be spending a lot of quality time on the saddle watching Vietnam’s glorious landscapes pass by. But don’t worry, there will still be plenty of time to make spontaneous stops by the roadside in order to admire in the views, chat to hospitable locals and dine on the region’s famous fresh food (A shot of rice wine is a must try!). This part of Vietnam is populated by dozens of ethnic minority peoples, many of whom still live off the land, using techniques and traditions unchanged in centuries. Famous for their colourful clothes and bustling markets, we’ll have lots of opportunities to interact with these friendly and fascinating people along the way.
Highlights along the route include
-Explore the History and Nightlife of Hanoi
-Experience the Mai Chau Valley
-Northern Highlands, Remote Villages
-Remote Hill Tribes
-Limestone Mountains
-High-altitude Climbs, Terraced Rice Fields
-Sapa Rest Day

Day 0Arrive at Noi Bai International Airport (HAN)

Book your flight to arrive at Noi Bai International Airport (HAN). We will pick you up from the airport and take you to your pre tour accommodation. You can spend your time exploring the city today. We will have a short briefing of the tour in the evening. Tonight’s accommodation is included

Day 1Hanoi - Mai Chau

Distance: 140 km

We start with a hearty breakfast in Hanoi after which we take to the road and the adventure begins! Pressing forwards out of the big city, we will plough through the weird and wonderful limestone mountains that characterize this region. As you cast your gaze across the landscape, you will notice that the tea and fruit plantations cover the hillsides displaying this area’s famous varieties of tea which are often brewed using fresh (not dried) tea leaves. We’ll be sure to stop at one of the roadside teahouses for a hot brew to warm us up in the cool mountain air! Hardy hill tribes have been eking out a living from this difficult land for centuries. Hence, staying in a White Thai ethnic minority village in the green embrace of the Mai Chau valley is a must have experience. This lush, verdant valley is a vision of rural paradise! Our hosts will fill the evening with warm hospitality, great food cooked over an open fire, rice wine, and maybe even a traditional dance or musical performance. We’ll spend tonight at our comfortable and welcoming homestay at Mai Chau.

Day 2Mai Chau - Nghia Lo

Distance: 220 km

Now that we are getting comfortable on our motorcycles, we can start taking things a notch higher! Riding out of Mai Chau, we head North along a bounty of stunning country roads. Expect wonderful winding road paving the way through the countryside with plenty of stops along the way to meet the locals and admire the agriculture & scenery, giving you a perfect introduction to the intriguing culture of Northern Vietnam before bringing us to our overnight stay in a comfortable small town hotel.

Day 3Nghia Lo - Sapa

Distance: 200 km

Get yourself back in the saddle bright and early, you won’t want to miss this epic day of riding, leading to an elevation of 1500 metres above sea level! Sapa is Vietnam’s most picturesque hill station and the routes we ride on are well off the beaten tourist track.
The French founded the village on the slope of the Hoang Lien Son Mountain in 1903 and used it as a retreat thanks to its cooler climate. The incredible routes and cloud-capped peaks are sure to have you smiling from ear to ear as we check into our beautiful hotel in the heart of this great corner of the world.

Day 4Sapa (Rest day)

Today, we take it easy with a well-deserved breather, though we will still make good use of the bikes! We will explore the surrounding local markets, small villages and diverse ethnic minority tribes of Sapa. We will provide one of our special lunches, followed by a free afternoon to relax and enjoy Sapa.

Day 5Sapa - Bac Ha

Distance: 150 km

Today is going to be very adventurous. as we ride along one of China’s most remote borders! The ride is simply stunning with incredible views and total immersion into Vietnamese culture. Local mountain-top villages and farming life will give you a crystal clear view into the Real Vietnam, followed by a great overnight stay in the small town of Bac Ha.

Day 6Bac Ha - Ha Giang

Distance: 210 km

Today, we will explore the increasingly beautiful Vietnamese countryside as we ride through the peaceful Ha Giang Province. We carve our way through more mountain peaks as we ride onwards through the constant curves and bends of the road. You will be in awe of the scenery, featuring mountain ranges as far as the eye can see, just don’t forget to keep an eye on the road! After crossing a rickety old suspension bridge, we arrive at our awesome local hotel in Ha Giang. This deep into the rural countryside you are sure to feel relaxed, but there is a great energy & atmosphere here, so take the time to enjoy a cool beer before a great rest!

Day 7Ha Giang - Dong Van

Distance: Approx 140 km

Moving deeper and deeper into rural Vietnamese life, we will see some of the most spectacular scenery of this epic journey today! With incredible curvy roads stretching over the countless mountains and lush valleys, you are sure to feel the adrenaline rush flowing as you look out over the beautiful landscapes of Vietnam. Tonight’s countryside rest spot will be the perfect follow up to this great day of riding, so make the most of the peaceful countryside lifestyle – don’t forget it’s only a few more days before we are back in the hectic hustle & bustle of Hanoi!

Day 8Dong Van - Ba Be Lake

Distance: Approx 240 km

Rise and shine! With surroundings like these you’re sure to wake up on the right side of the bed! Allow the fresh countryside air to revitalize you as we saddle up and get ready to ride. Today’s ride will feature an awesome blend of jungle surroundings and crystal clear views, leading us to a night with the natural beauty of Ba Be Lake. Comprising of three large interconnected bodies of water, this is the largest (and highest) natural lake in the whole of Vietnam! A perfect place for an overnight.

Day 9Ba Be Lake - Hanoi

Distance: 200 km

As the water of the lake glistens in the golden morning sunlight, our final destination of Hanoi is almost in sight. This is the last full day of riding, so be sure to make the most of this penultimate day of the tour! The curvy roads will begin to calm as we approach the tour end-point of Hanoi, however, we will avoid the main roads, so expect to find plenty of hidden treasures along the way! As we push forward across the rivers that surround Hanoi, we will take a few stops to pause for a breather, allowing ourselves to soak up this final day’s ride before a comfortable evening in our Hanoi hotel.

Day 10Hanoi

Share one last bonus day with the team and your new riding buddies! We will guide you through the majestic capital city- Hanoi, which has somehow retained so much of its traditional culture in spite of growing tourism and westernization. Enjoy discovering the hidden gems of this beautiful capital, from historic jails to the wonders of Hanoi’s Old Quarter. As always, we will show you the best food that Vietnam has to offer, before ending the day with a few drinks amongst friends as we say our farewells. What a way to end this trip of a lifetime!

  • This was my first Trip to Vietnam, no better way to see it, than on a motorbike.
No better way to do it, than with Vietnam Motorbike tours.

Your tour guide Bao and his well organised crew will guide you through some of the best sights in Vietnam.
No camera can capture the true beauty of this amazing country.

Cruising through the Villages with the sun on your face, the smell of smokey seafood bbq in the air, with inquisitive smiles from the locals, lets you know the Vietnamese people welcome you.

From the first nights accomidation to the last was first class, there is an endless supply of refreshments accompanied with daily lunches with generous servings that will not disappoint.

Bao and his crew will guide you at a comfortable pace through a country that needs to be seen and felt through your own eyes.

I have fallen in love with Vietmam and the spirit of the Vietnamese, who are truly beautiful people.

The saddest part is leaving, you will have a life changing experience that will live in your heart forever.

  • Jason, Benwah and the team are incredible! My husband Paul has toured with them in Vietnam and we both toured with them in Cambodia. To say that our motorcycle tours with this amazing company is what inspired us to subsequently travel the world on motorcycles is an understatement… this is where our introduction to and passion for motorcycle touring began! Nothing was too much trouble for the team and our individual needs were paramount throughout. It was simply the most spectacular way to experience Cambodia and Vietnam! The back-up vehicles and support, medical attention at times of need, great accommodation, food and fun, fun, fun! It was simply superb! We learned a great deal about the local history and were particularly inspired in Cambodia to support Global Village Housing and purchase a home for a family in need. This organization is not just about providing a great motorcycle tour experience but also about empowering the local communities through which you travel and you leave wiser and richer for the experience. I cannot recommend the team highly enough! Thank you for awesome memories guys, you are appreciated.
