Clarence Drive

One of the most spectacular roads in South Africa, Clarence drive runs along the coast from Gordon’s Bay to Rooi-Els for around 21km and features almost 80 bends.

Hermanus

Hermanus is a former fishing village and one of the best spots to view the Southern Right Whale in season.

Cape Agulhas

Cape Agulhas is the southernmost tip of Africa and a good spot for a lunch stop on our way to Montagu

Tradouw Pass

The 16 kilometer Tradouw Pass is one of the top passes in the Western Cape. Climbing through 219 meters it passes through some of the most beautiful and rugged mountain scenery on offer in the Langeberg.

Montagu

Located in the little Karoo on the famous Route 62 Montagu is known for its hot mineral springs, scenic mountains and orchards. It is also a major rock climbing venue.

Hex River Pass

The Hex River pass descends 340m from Touws River to the head of the Hex River Valley. Looking out from the high altitude plateau at the northern end of the pass offers spectacular views of the Matroosberg mountains and vineyards in the valley.

Michell's Pass

Michell’s pass runs through the Skurweberg & Witzenberg Mountains from Tulbagh and Wolseley through to Ceres. The scenery is wild and spectacular as the good tar road winds through sweeping curves past a number of waterfalls towards Ceres.

Bain's Kloof Pass

The iconic 27 km long Bains Kloof Pass is a national monument and links the town of Wellington to the more northern towns of Ceres and Worcester. The dramatic, northern section of the pass follows the course of the Witte River with hundreds of tight curves cut into the rock face before descending into the town Wellington with spectacular views towards Paarl and Cape Town

Bloubergstrand

Our final stop of this trip at Bloubergstrand offers great views of Table Mountain, Table Bay and Robben Island – and the chance to grab a good coffee before completing the short ride into Cape Town.

  • I decided at the last moment to join my son and cousin on an adventure motorcycle trip. My wife said ‘you’ll probably regret it if you don’t go’. She was right – I’m so glad I went. What a trip.
South Africa totally exceeded my expectations. The beauty and varied geography of the country was fascinating. There were so many highlights, but perhaps the best was travelling the road into Gamkaskloof or the day we spent at Kruger National park, or perhaps the stay on the Wild Coast where the boys body-surfed with dolphins. I had heard that maybe South Africa wasn’t the safest travel destination, but my preconceived ideas were wrong. We never had any issues, everywhere we went the South African people were friendly, hospitable and interesting to talk to. It was an absolutely wonderful trip, and from Cape Town to our final destination in Johannesburg we felt we were treated just wonderfully by ‘Andrew and Drew’.
    Just an amazing lifetime adventure!
This was a new route for our guide Andrew Vaughan (best guide ever) so every day was a new adventure for us and him. Andrew was absolutely great, from the knowledge of his country and history of each place we visited, giving us the little travel tips we needed, making sure he never lost us. And when we ran into some unexpected surprises, he just calmly solved it. I was very impressed. It was a great ride and very reasonably priced. Thanks so much to Andrew and Drew and everyone else that made our trip so memorable.

  • A motorbike tour in Southern Africa wasn’t on my list of priorities, but when invited by a friend to join him on a Cape to Kalahari tour I decided to give it a go. It turned out to be a very memorable experience, which has left me with the burning desire to see more of Africa. So much so that I’ll be joining Andrew again in June 2018, on his Great Rift Valley northern tour. If you’re after comfort and luxury this isn’t for you, the days are long, the accommodation is a mix of camping and shared rooms, and the bikes aren’t the latest and greatest. However, if you want adventure, mateship and a real sense of achievement; just do it! The bikes are classics, strong, and well maintained. The food is sensational, whether it be at restaurants or by the campfire. Andrew is the perfect tour leader, cool, calm and very knowledgeable about the country and things in general. Thanks Andrew, Drew and the team, looking forward to doing it again in 2018.

  • A grand tour of beautiful landscapes, exotic animals, and great roads. Andrew took into account our group’s preferences when route planning and we had a great variety of accommodations, but uniformly great experiences. There’s an expression that Africa gets “under your skin and into your blood” and I can’t wait to go back for another two-wheeled adventure with Andrew and Ride Down South.
